What is the purpose of Public Schools?

School is essential part of our lives. It serves as the first learning place for most people, where we learn the fundamentals of life. From my experiences in public school, I believe it prepares us for our near future and introduces us to obstacles that we will face. In the Education Code of Texas Chapter 4 it states, "The Mission of the public education system of this state is to ensure that all Texas Children have access to a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and fully participate now and in the future in the social, economic, and educational opportunities of our state and nation." Education enables children to develop their full potential, it is about both helping individuals learn and grow and to create a successful and prosperous society. In my years in school, the most i feel that i have gained is maturity and respect. From learning basic education to now understanding that there is a true meaning behind what we are all taught. For example, school has taught me to of course to read but it only goes much further than that. As we learn to progress in our reading we begin to expand our abilities and realize we can learn so much about the world just by reading. I was always into reading fiction books, because i truly thought that was the only thing that would keep me interested, but as i grew older i began reading about society, democracy, cultures, religions. That's when i was truly able to understand how our society works and how all this time we where being taught how to mange the world around us, but also understand.
