What Makes Great Teaching?

Throughout this course we have learned the importance of teaching and the downsides that education has. With these modules that we have completed, it has given me a new perspective of how we should teach our students. Meaning that even changing the smallest things can make a huge impact. What makes teaching great to me is being able to teach these students and to help them grow in life. One of the most important goals for me as a future educator would be that i was able to make a positive impact in each of my students lives. With the resources i have learned i am confident to be able to teach my future students, and with these strategies many have stood out to me. Here are my 5 top lists that have stood out to me. -Blogging with Educators:  Throughout the semester we have been able to blog reflecting what we have learned and being able to share our input and feelings regarding that lesson. I feel that this strategy has helped me in a way where i was able to communicate with m...

What is worth learning?

What is worth learning? Well to start with everything is worth learnin g, but what have we learned from Black History? Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States for close to a hundred years , it was created to ensure that the history of black people in the United States received the importance and scholarly attention it deserves. Y et, today Black History is still a contentious subject. To what extent have we learned about the achievements of Black people in this country and the struggles they have faced . I feel this topic has not been accurately and thoroughly taught in our schools. In this module we learned about the 3 Venn Diagrams of curriculum. “Explicit Curriculum,” is what is formally taught, like the rules, content, intended plans, etc. “Null Curriculum” are the things that are formally omitted from the formal cur riculum . Then there’s “Hidden Curriculum” that is the implicit message of the classroom taught from the explicit curriculum. T...

What is the purpose of Public Schools?

School is essential part of our lives. It serves as the first learning place for most people, where we learn the fundamentals of life. From my experiences in public school, I believe it prepares us for our near future and introduces us to obstacles that we will face. In the Education Code of Texas Chapter 4 it states, "The Mission of the public education system of this state is to ensure that all Texas Children have access to a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and fully participate now and in the future in the social, economic, and educational opportunities of our state and nation." Education enables children to develop their full potential, it is about both helping individuals learn and grow and to create a successful and prosperous society. In my years in school, the most i feel that i have gained is maturity and respect. From learning basic education to now understanding that there is a true meaning behind what we are all taught. For example, ...

Why Teach?  Once you start kindergarten the first question you get asked is "what do you want to be when you grow up?". Simple, a rockstar, a mermaid, a superhero and of course many more, but for me was to be a teacher. At that age I didn't know why or even know what the meaning of teaching was, but I knew I wanted to be looked up to. Elementary was my favorite growing up, even though I was a bit rambunctious and was always put on yellow and red for bad behavior, I still loved going to school. When I was in 2nd grade I had trouble reading which was a huge struggle for me, so I was put into Host, which was a program to help students like me who struggled to read. I HATED host. I felt that I was never understood or motivated because of how bad I was treated by the teachers. It made me feel embarrassed because of how bad I struggled and discouraged to feel that I was never going to get better. All I wanted and needed was patience and support. It wasn't until I met Ms. R...
